I don’t mean to brag, or anything (well, yeah, I do mean to brag), but some of the best pizza in the Detroit area was made by yours truly from 1979 to 1982 in Inkster, Michigan at Colosseum Pizza. It was a little carry-out place that I bought for $1200.00 I borrowed from my brother. Had a four-drawer Blodgett oven and a refrigerator and that’s about it. Operated on a shoestring but got decent reviews from the locals.
No, SaveFerris, we didn’t have a Frogger machine but we did have a Foosball table and a Vanguard and pinball machines while you waited. And dang, the inside of that place smelled good on a cold night! I did offer Buddy’s style deep-dish with the cheese on top and did a pretty good job with those, if I do say so myself, but overall just tried to make a decent pie with fresh ingredients and a generous amount of real cheese and sauce with my grandmother’s recipe (she was from the old country and had her own two pizzerias in Flint after moving to the U.S. in the late 1940s).
But no, you couldn’t make your own pie, although my brother tried to while I was out on a delivery once.
I do drop in on Buddy’s once in a while. Loui’s here in Hazel Park is also good for their deep dish. Definitely not a low-carb choice.
Well, good pie is good pie.
Good stuff.
Is Hazel Park the town of the former horse track? What is ongoing there?
