I'm a lot like you; I signed up before 2000 using my college email address and just had to create a new account in 2002 once I lost it.

I differ from you, though, in that the beauty of Free Republic is that it's not profit-driven. It's not at the mercy of advertisers or investors (some malicious), having to change with the shifting winds. I was away for a while and when I came back, it was like I never left.

Not sure how this differs from my sentiment. Large money and profit would have changed FR probably not for the better
