President Donald Trump’s Senate trial next month — rather than Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, who presided over Trump’s first trial last year.
Leahy, 80, is the Senate president pro tempore and third in line of presidential succession. He will have the honor as a result of Trump no longer being president.
“The president pro tempore has historically presided over Senate impeachment trials of non-presidents,” the Democrat said in a statement.
Historically, the first impeachment trial of a non-President was dismissed on procedural grounds, because the person no longer held office.

When was the last time a non president gas been impeached?
Since when has there been an impeachment trial of an Ex-President in our history? Leahy is a DERP of the highest order. Vermont has sent two numbskulls to represent them.
