The battle should have been fought decades ago in the pulpits. The church elected not to address our national sins.
I hope you got your big boy pants on because this is going to hurt.
The church started the whole thing. As I understand it, and I could be wrong about this so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but, as I understand it, this first "act of Congress" was to fund missionaries to Haiti.
That is to say, the first people to rely on other people's money instead of trusting God to provide for them was our fellow Christians.
And it continues to this day. The church I used to attend had a Grant Writer on staff. His or her sole job was applying for other people's money to pay for this or that church "ministry". Whether it be marriage counseling and seminars or drug counseling and halfway houses or any other number of good works.
Commence flaming.
“The battle should have been fought decades ago in the pulpits.”
We feel the same, and won’t attend a church where the pastor isn’t overtly political and conservative. (Our pastor in CA handed out yard signs for GOP candidates.) My mom visited us last month and said all of this is the result of the churches not taking firm political stands — after all, that’s why America was born in 1620. She and dad were in the ministry for 50 years, and he never backed off.
Where was the church(protestant &catholic) when Roe v wade was passed? Where was the church when prayer was removed from school? When schools taught children about “two mommies” & the joy of sodomy? Where was the church when homosexuals took over pulpits? Legalized homosexual “marriage”?
The past several decades has provided numerous opportunities for the American church to be salt & light.
Instead it got fat & happy & comfortable. And now is so weakened by apostasy & worldly influence it is impotent in the face of evil.
So let’s stop wondering “what’s led to this”?.
And let’s stop blaming everything else for the church’s failure.
