Prior to the Wall of Sound music had become horribly and reliably simplistic if not juvenile. Story songs dominated the market due to the fact that musicality had so diminished after the end of The Big Band era.

Spector essentially brought orchestration back to pop music. He set the stage for seminal works like “Good Vibrations”. Without Spector pop music was flat, and most songs were but a sequence of solo parts.

Sure. A bit like the fossilization of French cinema before Truffaut and his New Wave colleagues took it over and reinvented it into a far more interesting, vibrant and creative art form. Not arguing Spector’s role in the history of music. More just saying 99% of what he did isn’t something i would want to listen to (unlike Truffaut whose work I love).

"Let It Be" album was later de-Spectored into "Let It Be Naked"...and MUCH MUCH better. "The Long & Winding Road" is truly exceptional without the Spector over produced garbage.
