I have thought about walkie talkies for the daughter that lives close, but we have to drive or walk over to talk to her, since she keeps her phone turned off most of the time - so she would probably do the same with the walkie talkie.

Hey GE, I don't know how far that daughter is but have you considered something as low tech as an old fashioned triangle dinner bell? Or a canned air horn? Separate signals could indicate emergency NOW! or a simple, hey turn your phone on for a chat.

the handheld CBs we have are basically just walkie talkies. Fairly cheap and available at all truck stops. We remove batteries when not in use to extend life. I have a solar charger hooked to a caterpillar battery for my HAM unit. We are probably late with this conversation.

Apologies for lateness. We had taken the afternoon off to relax and rest.

LOL. We do have a old fashioned dinner bell on a fence post on the back patio. Have never really tested it to see how far it could be heard.

What’s the deal with all the posts lately to get your beofeng
phones that I keep seeing on the forum threads?

I am interested in a solar charger. I had bought one to be able to recharge my batteries, but the one I got leaves a lot to be desired. If you have a good one, I’d be interested to explore getting one.
