A California sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a mountain lion Monday that was stalking a family of four on a bike trail in the Sierra Nevada foothills east of Placerville, county officials said.

The El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office said it responded late Monday afternoon to a 911 call from a couple with two small children in a stroller and two small dogs.

The adult mountain lion followed the family for 10 minutes and continued to track them even when they yelled, according to reports.

When a deputy arrived on the scene, he watched the lion pacing back and forth and also tried shouting at the animal, the Sheriff's Office said.

Yes. They try to strike on the back of the neck. They take elk down instantly that way, so they are powerful. It can cause an overpressure followed by sudden blood pressure drop in people. I lived among quite a few of them for a while. Never heard them growl as seen in movies. They only made a short, raspy screeching sound and only at night (mating call, perhaps). Sounded more like some kind of bird.

On dry ground, they walked really fast when traveling and make the speed look effortless. When running, they looked fast as greyhounds.

But in deep ice, they hopped like jackrabbits and covered a lot of ground real fast when running from me (very bright moonlight at high altitude and elevation, temp way below zero). Wildlife experts claim that they only go after live animals, but that’s not correct. They’ll eat dog food in the winter, unless the dog is out watching for them. They’re afraid of large dogs (like shepherds or hound dogs). They’re afraid of adult humans, too, unless you have your back to them.

I don’t accept your fatalism. The Democrats have worked at their scheme for a long time and it will take a long time to undo it but I believe it will eventually be undone, and before we become worse off from Cuba. Call it irrational optimism, but I am infected by it.

Optimism, it is said, is true moral courage.

Back in the 1950s no one would ever have believed that things could come to this pass. And yet, here we are.

My only comfort is to reflect that I’m not the smartest person around. Maybe somebody else can think our way out of this one. I certainly haven’t been able to.

YA THINK?

Not to worry though, we are at only 8 inches of rain/snow, when normally this time of year we should have at least 20.

This coming summer and fall the fires should be spectacular.

Started on widening my fire break from 80ft to 100ft last week.

They finally put the August Complex to bed about 2 or 3 weeks ago at just over 1,032,640 acres.

THAT’S THE CALIFORNIA WAY TO MANAGE OUR FORESTS!!!!
