The QAnon effort was devised for giving conservatives everywhere a black eye and causing conservatives to lose elections. I saw a very similar effort administered by a radical leftist against a narrow interest conservative advocacy during the 1990s. The losses were demoralizing and costly.

I don’t know about Twitter running this, but someone was running an OP. I figured it was CIA/Deep State. It kept some of the brightest MAGA people compliant while they waited for a hammer to fall, that was not even Nerf level deadly. We/You/Q got played, it worked perfectly.
