The best proof we’ve seen that demonstrates what many of us have felt for a long time is watching Republican lawmakers and executives distance themselves from President Trump. Some of us have believed the apparent embrace of the President and his policies by leaders in the GOP was manufactured and/or feigned for political expediency only. In other words, people like Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham were only pretending to defend the President because they could use him. Now that he seems to be leaving (though some of us aren’t so sure that’s actually the case), they’re scrambling back to the swamp-infested shadows of Republican establishmentism.
The Republican Party should be controlled by, you know, Republicans. President Trump’s brand of politics is populist Republicanism. It’s like standard Republicanism with an America-first mentality that disavows neoconservative principles. It also engages in principles that are not traditionally Republican such as fair trade instead of free trade and bigger budgets than we’d like. I’m not happy with the big budgets, but it seems like there are only six or seven in the House and maybe three in the Senate who actually walk the walk of fiscal conservatism, so that’s a battle for later.
Right now, we need to either get a new party going or we need to replace the tired Republican Establishment leadership in the GOP with populist Republicans.

I can’t count how many times I’ve been flamed on Freerepublic for criticizing Mitch McConnell.

I fear it will be like the Tea Party, where people will say they are for the Tea Party, but not vote that way.
I’ve distanced myself from all those GOP baby RINO’s - there’s not a man among them.
Trump has been the best President the USA has ever had! He’s the best President the GOP has had in my lifetime. It’s those wishy-washy GOP politicians who are the problem!
The GOP will turn to the Likes of Mittens and other RINOs, so beloved by the Media. Tokens to make you think we live in a free country. Time for the GOP to A. Reform (they will not) or be tossed into the ashcan of History—replaced by a new party. This new party will be targeted by the media and the forces of the swamp. Remember what they did to the Tea Party? Learn from that. They will make it into a “New KKK” a new “American Nazi Party” — They will call them every name in the Book. They will attack them with BLM violence where the criminals will not be arrested and the cops stand down so the “Fascists’” can get whats coming to them. How about we do the opposite—Go full Communists—and go after the Rich—Government by Workers, people take over Twitter, the Media, Occupy the NYT, NBC, ABC? Want to Go Lefty—Well—Do it go full Mao! No Rich, no poor, all equal.
perhaps Sundance felt like Rudy Giuliani when Rudy had the evidence about Hunter’s laptop and the testimony of Bobilinsky plus all the emails from a partner of Hunter who was in jail. Rudy could not get anyone in the Marxist media to cover his findings.
Bad things are happening in this country.
I guess the question is, “Who is the GOP?” I agree that the leadership of the GOP despises Trump and it despises most of the Republican voters as well. It considers them uncouth, uneducated, unintelligent, unwashed, and ultimately dangerous to their own ambitions. So, why should people like that lead the GOP? What should the voters not have their say in the party’s politics, if not the election?
We are the GOP, without us they don’t exist. The BASTARDS Mitch the Bitch, Rove and their ilk must be primary(ed) out of existence! NO MORE go along to get along!
This anti-Trump frenzy is going to backfire.
We will displace all of the RINOs, but it will take one more election cycle to do so. In two years, we can strike fear into their hearts by primaring all of them..

We need a new populist, nationalist, American party.
At one time, “The Best and the Brightest” was applied to a former cabinet. Though it was used ironically, given their fecklessness, that term hasn’t even come close to describing politicians in general in this country for many decades, GOP and dem alike.
I view the GOP as a fake party. Kind of like fake news in that it misleads and lies to people to hide their agenda.
And I agree with you that the GOP has a deep seated contempt for its voters. I’m pretty sure Trump see’s that too. He’s always had an uncomfortable relationship with the party. My theory is that the GOP tolerated Trump because they feared he might create a competing one on his own. I think the GOP is stupidly (situation normal for them) underestimating Trump’s power and ability to crush the GOP. JMHO.
I envy the Dems in one respect: they have a party that fight for them. Their party is corrupt too but it doesn’t dispagae its base like the GOP does.
The GOP really jumped the shark this time. Trump voters have had it with them. The catalyst has arrived.
The GOP has done it’s part to destroy themselves - Mitch trashing the 2k to give GA to the rats, all the people in Congress and even the WH who are bailing on and trashing Trump. Apparently they think they’ll get through this but if we don’t ever vote for them again they’re a permanent minority until they’re replaced with a third party - and I have no idea if that can ever happen.

That’s why I get irked hearing about RINOs somehow being “weak” or “caving” (as if they were somehow conservatives at any time) when the truth is they are doing exactly what they intend to do. January 6 should have put that beyond all doubt.
True..one of the things that will be necessary for a new party to flourish is it needs to champion populist common ground that has appeal to disaffected democrats, honest liberals, and small-L libertarians as well as conservative Trump supporters.
Threading the needle will be difficult for some won’t want to see the emphasis on their personal issues diluted, but a good strategy and prudential solutions that align with the American populism may ultimately see the same result, just via different means.
