I hung on to our landline like grim death because we have frequent power outages for long periods of time. We always could use the landline. I loved having it and miss it!
Then a year ago we had a power outage and no phone service. I called AT&T and found out they had laid fiber optic cable in our subdivision, and whatever makes that work requires electricity. Bummer.
Same way you communicated with them before Facebook.

My God. No reason to jump on me. You don’t know me. Talk about eating their own. The left is no worse than us. I commend his efforts but I have a right to say it wasn’t a long term plan knowing the situation we were facing. I am glad someone took initiative. I take nothing away from the effort.
At the same time I said the same thing 2-3 years ago that I said today. So hate me if you like. We’re all a bit upset over recent events. I have never used Twatter or Fascistbook period, but I still hate seeing free speech so abused by the social media. I hope we can still respect it amongst ourselves.
Just remember, you can chat on a ham station, but you can’t broadcast. If you have a ham,licence, you know what the difference is.
I think we may all need a HAM radio in cases like this. May need to read up on this.

Mine isn’t. Landline is, to ME anyway, hard wired, because I’m that old. :)
I am nearly the last in my neighborhood to keep theirs, and that’s why I saw what good advise this is.
A couple of years ago all the internet, IP services here went out for a day. I was the only one who could actually use a phone, lol. My next door neighbors had just switched to a bundle - and had no access to their (IP) phone. They had two elderly parents they were caring for, so I told them about our land-line in case of emergency.
