Typically, the out going POTUS leaves in the morning before the inauguration.
For the past several inaugurations, outgoing POTUS flies on AF1 for the (one last) last time, releasing it back to DC on arrival to his destination.

On AF1, well protected.

At this point, it looks to me like it will be down to the wire; this wire.
Either Q is or Q isn’t.

typically the P-elect comes to the White House and then all go to the inauguration; after that, before the parade, etc., is when the outgoing president goes back to the White House and departs.
