How f’ng hard is it to say, “I have received two slates of electors from Arizona. One was sent by the Secretary of State, and purports to be lawful. The other is supported by members of the majority of the state legislature of Arizona, and those members claim that their Secretary of State has acted unlawfully and unconstitutionally to certify a slate of electors fraudulently. I do not have sufficient information to declare which side is the correct one. The Constitution defers to the state legislature, not state governor or secretary of state, the manner of choosing electors for Presidential elections. I am therefore returning both sets of electors to the leaders of both legislative houses in Arizona, and requesting that they determine which slate of electors represents the will of Arizona’s voters, and return their decision to me no later than January 15.”
