Therefore, there are no call in votes due to COVID. That’s a rule of the previous House.
Members have to be in attendance to vote for Speaker, and to adopt new rules.
It would be a hoot if not enough Dems showed up, and Kevin McCarthy became the new Speaker.

116th Congress ends thus morning. Per the Consititution, the 117th Congress begins at noon et. VP Pence to the Hill to swear in new class of senators. Senate begins at 51 GOPers to 48 sens who caucus w/Dems. Loeffler still a senator. Perdue’s term expires
