7 Reasons You Should Play the Ukulele

The ukulele is easier to learn than the guitar and other stringed instruments like the mandolin. Its soft nylon strings are gentler on your fingertips and don't create finger pain like guitars do. The small size reduces wrist tension because the notes are reachable without stretching. Plus, it only has four strings, which makes chord shapes and scales easier to learn.

The only valid reason to buy a Uke is if your mother in law hates it with a passion and won’t visit a house with a Uke player.

I can’t play the guitar anymore because of arthritis. I now play the mountain dulcimer. It is easier to play than the guitar or the uke. You should check it out.

I would only play the ‘Uke” or Concertina if I were in a POW camp.

The only reason NOT to learn to play the ukulele, is that it is a ukulele.

Like many things in life, a little levity is groovy. Making music is a very good thing.

Learn to play a song or two on the uke. No harm, and you never know who us might impress.

“Don’t eat the Daisies” on TCM last night.

Beautiful woman, playing the uke, singing with that voice, and dancing in the yard.

That’s OK I’m my book.

I’ve played guitar for years. I’m thinking about getting a ukelele, although i don’t want to spend silly money for one (do you hear me Eastman?).

Guitars and Ukes make no sense to me. I sorta get violins and cellos - equal intervals between the strings.

Meh, I'll stick with keyboards. You push a button, it makes a noise. So easy.

Or, “Tiptoe through the tulips?”

It's better with an acoustic guitar.

Tiptoe Through the Tulips--Nick Lucas (1929)
This is a clip from the movie Gold Diggers of Broadway, previously thought to have been "lost." I saw Lucas perform "Tulips" live in 1978.

“I can’t play the guitar anymore because of arthritis.”

I played guitar for over 40 years, then I fell iff a ladder, shatterd my fretting hand wrist and my guitar playing dexterity and flexibility are greatly diminished. I probably will never be fully restored. But I found that I can play a 5-string or 4 string banjo or a bass guitar or a baritone ukulele, which is tuned to the high 4 strings on a guitar I can relate to every position on the neck after playing guitar for so long.

Even if my capabilities had been reduced to playing one finger on an electronic child keyboard toy. I would probably be playing that if it was my only option. There’s something about musicians that they will go find something to make music on if they absolutely have to.
