Awesome! A few years ago, I told the gals at our quilting group at church that I have a concealed carry permit, that was a fun moment. Hee hee.

April 1âSo Helpfulâ
Share with the Lordâs people who are in need. Practice hospitality.
Romans 12:13The caller to the Christian radio station said that his wife was coming home from the hospital following surgery. Then he shared something that spoke deeply to my heart: âEveryone in our church family has been so helpful in taking care of us during this time.â
When I heard this simple statement, it reminded me of the value and necessity of Christian hospitality and care. I began to think that the love and support of fellow believers for one another is one of the greatest ways to demonstrate the life-changing power of the gospel.
In First Peter, the apostle was writing a letter to be circulated among the first-century churches in whatâs now the country of Turkey. In that letter, he compelled his readers to do something that his friend Paul wrote about in Romans 12:13: âPractice hospitality.â Peter said, âLove each other deeply . . . offer hospitality,â and he told them to use the gifts God gave them to âserve othersâ (1 Peter 4:8â10). These are clear directions to all believers in Jesus for how weâre to treat fellow believers.
All of us know people like that callerâs wifeâthose who need someone to come alongside and show concern and Christlike love. In Godâs strength, may we be among the ones who are noted for being âso helpful.â
Reflect & Pray
What has God equipped you to do for those in need? How has God revealed His own hospitable nature?
Loving God, help me to look around for people who need an encouraging word or action from me. Then help me offer hospitality to them.

Sorry I am very late tonight. My hubby calmly told me earlier today that he thought he was having a heart attack, so we went to the ER as quickly as I could get dressed. As it turned out, his tests all came back "normal" which was a relief. He goes to see his personal doctor on Monday to see what really caused the chest pain he was having. So...I'm thankful that he is ok. Happy Thankful Thursday!

April 2The Cost
When he had received the drink, Jesus said, âIt is finished.â With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.
John 19:30 Michelangeloâs works explored many facets of the life of Jesus, yet one of the most poignant was also one of the most simple. In the 1540s he sketched a pieta (a picture of Jesusâ mother holding the body of the dead Christ) for his friend Vittoria Colonna. Done in chalk, the drawing depicts Mary looking to the heavens as she cradles her Sonâs still form. Rising behind Mary, the upright beam of the cross carries these words from Danteâs
Paradise, âThere they donât think of how much blood it costs.â Michelangeloâs point was profound: when we contemplate the death of Jesus, we must consider the price He paid.
The price paid by Christ is captured in His dying declaration, âIt is finishedâ (John 19:30). The term for âit is finishedâ (tetelestai) was used in several waysâto show a bill had been paid, a task finished, a sacrifice offered, a masterpiece completed. Each of them applies to what Jesus did on our behalf on the cross! Perhaps thatâs why the apostle Paul wrote, âMay I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, through which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the worldâ (Galatians 6:14).
Jesusâ willingness to take our place is the eternal evidence of how much God loves us. As we contemplate the price He paid, may we also celebrate His loveâand give thanks for the cross.
Reflect & Pray
How could each meaning of tetelestai be applied to the cross of Jesus and what He accomplished there? Why does each one have meaning to you?
Father, when I consider the sacrifice Jesus made on my behalf, I am humbled and deeply grateful. Thank You for Jesus, and thank You for the cross.

He is much better. Kind of gave us a scare though. I hope we know more after he sees his personal doc on Monday.

It was scary! We’re just praying that his doctor doesn’t find anything majorly wrong when he sees him this coming Monday.
