To be an Opthomologist in the U.S. does require an M.D.
I was just questioning LI-Meng Yan’s credentials.
She’s being presented as a Dr.
I couldn’t find any info re: Li-Meng Yan being an M.D.
Hong Kong U says she is a post-doctoral fellow. That is usually a post PhD position.

What I am running across is, it’s unknown whether she has an M.D. in Ophthalmology or just a Master’s or a PhD.
Most in the states refer to her as a virologist. They don’t need a doctorate.
If she does have a doctorate in virology it would be a PhD.
