I have to admit, it has me wondering.
A lot of these people seem to show up with black eyes.
How many black eyes have you had in your life?
I guess it depends on what one does for a living or hobby.
But I don’t think too many of these people are taking karate lessons.
Of course, they could be getting slightly beat up as a warning about what will happen to them or their loved ones if they are seen talking to the wrong people.
I’m pretty damn clumsy, but even I don’t get a black eye more than once a decade.
It’s usually not just a black eye, but specifically, the left eye that’s bruised.
It is believed to be part of an initiation.

It is coincidental that it happens often to those in high places. Always seems to be a certain eye too.
