Why blame the truck driver when vehicles routinely travel at 75mph+ on these open roads. A bicycle is doing what? 15 mph? That begs the question, why in tarnation would someone in their right mind get on a bicycle go anywhere near a venue like that? That’s down right suicide from my perspective.

More likely the cyclists were doing 22-28 mph. On the shoulder. That should be an awfully safe ride. There is absolutely no reason for a vehicle to be driving that closely to them. A competent truck driver would also squeeze left just like he does for every time there’s a car stopped on the shoulder.

The driver is at fault here.
