I remember when they were “Saxon’s pecan logs.”

I remember as a kid (in the mid-60s) Stuckey’s would advertise “free log roll with fill-up.”

“Dad, can we get gas at Stuckey’s?”

There was a local truck stop, Flying J, that used to sell an assortment of Stuckey’s products. I always bought some pecan logs for stocking stuffers. I stopped at the truck stop Monday and nothing, no Stuckey’s at all. I asked the clerk he said he didn’t know if they were getting any products this year.

I checked Stuckey’s website and the nearest spot is now hundreds of miles away. They must have scaled back or changed their marketing strategy. I guess there is always mail order.

Half way between LA and Las Vegas, Nev. is an old Stuckey’s store. It sits on the hillside near the point about 36 miles northeast of Barstow where the highway leaves the Mojave River valley and heads over a series of rugged ridges southwest of Baker. The turquoise building can be seen for miles when approaching from the southwest. It has been occupied over the years by various businesses but appeared abandoned the last time I drove past.

Here is the very interesting web site, folks. It has the company history, a mail order of many items besides pecan log roll, and also a place to "post your memories!"

Stuckey's

I don't do FB, but apparently there is a "Stuckey's Roadside Club" on Facebook, according to this amazing article:

Stuckey’s History (click to reveal this story at bottom of their history page)

Back in my younger days of country music DJing, I had heard their commercial, “Make a Stuckey’s stop” a million times, and managed many times to work that into playing a Nat Stuckey record. I doubt they’re related, but it was fun.
