It is the compliment to having a "Gun-Free Zone."
Similarly, there is a good reason why even the most ardent anti-4th Amendment loser has curtains obscuring their living room or bedroom from public observation.
It's also why FDR didn't ring up Berlin prior to D-Day to have an open-kimono strategy chat.
The planet (and the left) knows Americans have an "obsession" with guns and ammo. They generally don't know who has the goods. As such, there is a good reason why they push doctors and other Karens to quiz us on our ordnance inventory. There is an equally good reason why those wannabe-overlords are greeted with a lie or MYOFB retort.
That's pure 100% feedlot grade bullshit. If you bought a weapon from a retailer and and especially if you have a CC permit you're on a list in a feral grubermint data base.
“They generally don’t know who has the goods. “
Yes, they do. You’re not fooling anybody.
A very simple data query of credit cards, Amazon and eBay orders, USPS images of letters and packages of sender addresses from gun related companies (the USPS images ALL mail), concealed carry permits, and NICS checks will turn up all those with guns and gun paraphernalia, and your neighbors would rat you out in a second.
A more advanced query of all databases will show with 99.995% probability who owns guns.
“They generally don’t know who has the goods.”
If you bought from an FFL’s store, they know you have firearms.
If your ID was scanned to buy ammo, they know...
If you have a CCW/CHL, they know...
I have several Class III firearms and suppressors, so they know...
They know what you have, and what you don’t.
If you get ads for ammo, the .gov knows what you have also.
A family member in the business joked they they probably know your stash better than your spouse does.
“ There is an equally good reason why those wannabe-overlords are greeted with a lie or MYOFB retort. ”

Just lie. The other answer is a dead giveaway, and may make you, your family and your dog dead someday.
