Confused as to why you think Gettysburg is a better analogy than Midway. I am referring to a point in a fight that signals that the enemy has reached their apex, and the end result is now just a matter of time. The victory at Midway showed we would win the war in the Pacific. The beginning of the end for Japan. Gettysburg was an epic battle, but the South still had lots of ways to avoid defeat. McClellan barely lost. The North’s armies were commanded by idiots. There were draft riots. A truce was definitely possible. It really wasn’t until Sherman reached Atlanta that the South’s ultimate defeat was a foregone conclusion.
