The rawness...raw, loud, full. You’re right, it’s hard to beat. It’s strange how some songs congeal when they’re live in a way they don’t in the studio. Cheap Trick had a knack for that too. “Surrender”; “I Want You To Want me”; “Ain’t That a Shame.” Some songs are almost like a religious experience live; and in the studio, they just don’t equal the sum of their parts. Maybe not most songs...but certain ones. I have no idea why.
