We were driving Highway 1, north of San Francisco. North of Jenner, it becomes very steep with only a metal barrier to stop you from going over the side, if you make even one mistake. Going up to the beautiful hotel, the Timber Cove Inn, to celebrate my birthday, I could hardly open my eyes I was so frightened. Driving back down the road was even worse the next day. The whole area was covered in fog and I was just terrified. We’ve never gone back there.....and that is fine with me. Beautiful area, but impossible to deal with, for someone who is afraid of heights.

Yep, the north bay stretch of highway 1 has a lot of hairy slow switchbacks that are very technical. The south bay is a cake walk comparativlely. The deceased rider just was speeding or was impaired, more than likely.
