I use it as a convenient and interesting clearing-house for news, and for intelligent commentary on the news by fellow citizens who aren’t controlled by corporations. (The latter is what interests me most.)
But I wouldn’t be ‘lost’ without it.

Never said "be" lost. I said "feel" lost. Two completely different concepts.
Maybe I should have said something closer to "I feel that I cannot get the intelligent commentary from my fellow citizens who arent controlled by corporations when the DNS at FreeRepublic goes south." Better?
