I remember being completely smashed on liberty once and singing that with a bunch of guys!
Someone taught it to us, and we began making up verses on the fly!
I guess they don’t let you do that anymore in the Navy...I guess I am old school now...:)

Thank you for your service. For many years, I was into the Civil War, traveled to many of the battlefields, and did a lot of historical research. I came across the music of a Civil War band called The 97th Regimental String Band. I have many of their CD's. One of them was titled "Saturday Night at Sea," so all the ballads were related to sea faring. This is their rendition of "What Do You Do With a Drunken Sailor."
