Multiple journals reject major mask study amid hints that it shows masks don't stop COVID

Results will be published "as soon as a journal is brave enough," researcher says.

Danish study has reportedly been ready for months

In spite of their now-ubiquitous presence in most of the Western world today, relatively little evidence exists to support widespread use of face-masking to prevent the spread of respiratory disease. A 2019 World Health Organization review of pandemic mitigation measures, for instance, found "no evidence" that face coverings helped to stop the spread of influenza.

Whether or not studies on influenza transmission can apply to COVID-19 is unknown; the disease's relatively recent emergence means that scientific studies on it are in short supply. Studies can take many month to secure funding, develop methodologies, carry out experiments, interpret the findings, write a research paper and get it peer-reviewed and published.

To bridge that gap, a team of Danish scientists earlier this year sought to carry out a major randomized controlled trial study to determine how effective masks might be at stopping COVID transmission. The study, begun in April, involved around 6,000 Danish citizens, half of whom wore face coverings during "normal behavior" and the other half of whom went without them.

The study concluded in June. Yet the Copenhagen newspaper Berlingske reported this week that it has been rejected by at least three elite medical journals so far — the Lancet, the New England Journal of Medicine, and JAMA, the Journal of the American Medical Association.

"They all said no," Christian Torp-Pederson, one of the study's researchers, told the Danish newspaper this week. He added that the study's scientists "cannot start discussing what [the journals] are dissatisfied with, because in that case we must also explain what the study showed, and we do not want to discuss that until it is published."

"Surgical masks keep “spatter” out of OR staffs’ mouths."

They do do that, but masks are for keeping patients from catching what ever the medical people might have been exposed to. Same with gloves and why a surgeon sterilizes before surgery. Every medical professional I interact with has confirmed this. It is to protect the patient, primarily. Protection of the medical personnel is a secondary benefit. In any case, Something is better than nothing.

Except, just who is stupid enough to sneeze with a mask on?

“make”

It didn’t start out as “make” but too many people decided they were special. It still isn’t make in most places.

“But why make uninfected people wear them?”

How do you know I am uninfected? There is plenty of evidence from before they suppressed all the data from Wuhan about asymptomatic spreaders. You can find some of the stories still.

Masks do not work to stop viruses.

High School biology should have taught you that.

“We will all be exposed eventually.”

True, most likely. Of course, if we are all exposed at once, a lot more of us will die. If we slow it down we don’t crash our HCS and maybe have better treatments by the time we’re all exposed.

Since you are clearly an ignorant dolt I will give you a pass on your feeble attempt at trolling me. Just don’t project your deliberate obtuseness on others.

I absolutely hate the masks for a few reasons. My body, my choice. They restrict my breathing and I already have low oxygenation issues requiring surgical intervention to reduce. Most masks are useless. And finally, their use is overriding federal laws (such as ADA) and has literally become a control issue rather than a health issue.

Now, despite my personal opinions, I have a fMily member who is so pregnant that shes due for her baby within 3 weeks. She works as the one who does the intake at a hospital emergency room. She has to wear a mask and is regularly exposed to covid. She’s been exposed since the beginning, and hasn’t contracted it.

Additionally, she’s in the military and has had a series of vaccines that the average civilian doesn’t receive. I don’t know if any of those vaccines have contributed to her not contracted covid.

So, despite my personal opinions, I have to consider I may be incorrect. As many people as there are contracting covid, I have to consider that in many cases, masks are useless. It’s been reported that 85% of covid victims were faithful mask wearers.

I don’t use masks most of the time. Only 3 times have I used one for only a few minutes. So far I am covid free...testing proves it. I rarely ever get flu. When the kids were in school, that was a different story. It showed me that the unnatural environment of school was/is unhealthy.

No, we were supposed to flatten the curve. Nothing more.

We have already done that... months ago.

Define California then, masks required everywhere and lockdowns, yet the Chinus cases are increasing.

Thanks.

I had some idiot say that is exactly what you do. Sneeze into the mask then simply get another one.

Most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard.

“Masks do not work to stop viruses.
High School biology should have taught you that.”

Viruses don’t have wings. They require transport. That is in the form of saliva or mucous droplets (that are, in fact, generally too large to pass through the holes in masks).

Masks stop some of those droplets. That reduces the quantity of virus in the environment, in turn reducing the amount of exposure by an individual, on average, providing them with a better chance to develop antibodies or engage other immune system defenses in time to avoid serious illness - in other words, be part of that asymptomatic cohort. These are all easily verified facts that you can look up.

Your High School biology class was clearly of low quality.

You are simply a useless old idiot that denies what he doesn’t want to hear. You never contribute anything to any discussion, all you do is snipe, Panda boy.

It’s not a cold. Colds rarely kill anyone, certainly not 225,000 people in 7 months.

Aren't you just precious?

Actually viruses do travel on their own. I am so sorry you never learned that in your cut rate Falsi formula propaganda class.

But you just wrap that training burqua around you and try to get into a level four virus lab.

Be sure to tell them about how just it will reduce the viral load and will keep you from getting sick.

You said: Masks prevent an infected person from spreading covid. Nobody is claiming they are 100% effective, but they are effective to a large degree

No, this isn’t accurate. In hospital situations, nurses that deal with covid patients wear masks that expose no skin and attach to their “suits” and gloves.
In nursing homes, caregivers come in with face masks and pass covid on to their patients.

Actually, we have real world data now that we didn’t have before.

Considering all factors, mask, lockdowns, etc have not been very effective.

I guess that you have to define what your goal is. If the goal is to prevent everyone from being exposed, then impossible.

Anyway, I believe that this study proves that masks are not effective.
