I firmly believe the great majority of these are FALSE POSITIVES.
I don't know how to compile a list; but, it seems like about 90% of the POSITIVE TESTS in big-time college sports or pro sports have turned out to be FALSE POSITIVES.
This is really the only PUBLIC DATA we have to go on--in a sense it's our laboratory of TRUTH--because whenever one of these athletes gets tested positive, it's FRONT-OF-SPORTS-PAGE news ... and their team goes into medical overdrive to confirm or refute the positive result.
Then, when they are proven a day or two later to be FALSE POSITIVES, as they usually are, it's in the news again.

2 things:

We may be seeing false positive “waves” in the data.
An increase in the positives followed by a slow decline, leading to another peak.
Likely cause: Large amount of false positives on day1. As those FPs return to be re-tested, they are negatives and thus reduce the overall count.

What is test rate/ by person-tests?
How is it that there are enough tests to show positives in the 40K-50K...EVERY day?
I’ve been by several testing spots in my area and there is no long line of people waiting to be tested. /anecdotal
Regarding the false positives on Covid it would be interesting to know where tests were taken and for what reason.
I was scheduled for a port removal (which got cancelled) but was required to take a Covid test which was negative so I could have had the minor surgery if not cancelled for another reason. I know 2 others scheduled for surgeries which brought income to hospital and doctor who also had negative tests. Yet a friend with a headache went to doctor for test which was positive.
In other words do tests that might enrich hospitals and doctors have less chance of false positive than tests done that won’t generate more profit.
