Funny, that, in an odd sort of way.
Back when my Favorite Son had married his Perfect Wife, she had decided, for whatever reason, that I didn’t like her. About four months after they married, she called me and asked me if I had life insurance because “we don’t want to be stuck with your funeral expenses.” So she set up an appointment with her life insurance company, who sent a nurse out.
CFIDS affects the liver adversely, and though the disease itself won’t kill, there are things that can be so adversely affected that people can die from things they weren’t aware they had.
So my liver numbers were up, and life insurance was denied me. D-i-L was never told why but the subject hasn’t come up again. However, in the meantime, I began to take massive doses of milk thistle and once I began, my liver numbers have have gone up and stayed within the normal range for the last eight years.
I don’t have life insurance because I can’t afford the premiums on a high enough amount that would help defray most of the cost of a funeral. Pretty sad, really. Maybe when I get to AR...
One way to defray at least some of that expense is to separately select and pay for your choice of caskets from someone other than your "family" mortician. They may not like it, but that can be added to the list of things to negotiate.
Why no, I haven't done that. Why would I?
One doctor suggested milk thistle to me. I can’t remember if I tried it.
