Favorite Daughter has a -7° and 800 miles south and east, and 3000’ lower in altitude, as well, Favorite Son is having -6°.
I like winter less and less as I age.
Climate change, y’all. We got some below-zero weather the year we lived in Tennessee, south of Nashville.
What year was that? If I may ask?
1996.
Ah. Thanks. Later than I expected.
In 1996, I was in Vegas, suffering from my first year of being annoyed by CFIDS to the point that I was forced to quit work. I don’t think I knew anything that was happening anywhere else in the country. I just knew I couldn’t get warm.
The bed is made. I think I’m done for the day, but I’ll try to do some more packing tomorrow, before I go to Walmart. As long as I do it early enough, I’m hoping the pain won’t be quite so bad, what with the weather like it is.
Is that the same as unwinding (un-wind-ing)?
I don’t, but most of the rest of the project does, which means “get things done” time.
Uh...no. The only thing worse is when it circled the valley for days, which made people cranky and caused them to get a shock whenever they touched anything. I miss the heat, but that’s about all!
1996
Moosie’s grand tour of Central America.
First time I’d seen Leaf cutter ants. They do get grumpy if you introduce them to diversions and road blocks. But they do like Beer.
Mosquitos that don’t just put the needle in you but through you.
Had learned about snakes the year before, strange creatures.
The reuse of American school buses as public transport.
“A most curious part of the world’. He said, reloading his pipe before going off on another travelers tale.
Yes, that would about sum up a tourist’s guide to “Central” America, or as we locals term it, “The Midwest,” which is distinct from the Pacific Northwest, the Southwest, the Rockies, the Great Lakes Area, the South and “Down East,” which is really not down at all but where we Colonist’s landed. The real Central America is between North America and South America.
If school buses take children to and from school, they must be painted Schoolbus Yellow by federal regulation. Unless the school is private and then anything goes. Used school buses muse be painted some other color if they have been sold to other than a public school district.
In Texas, one can put saddles on the mosquitoes. In Alaska (the Last Frontier) the mosquitoes put saddles on you.
Any other bits of info you need to tell your mother about before she visits? ;o]
Snakes are way cool. I can’t imagine growing up without going all freekout because we spotted one then trying to catch it. Fortunately for us, the cottonmouths were tough to spot. We mostly spotted garter snakes and black racers. We didn’t catch the racers.
That’s where I was down in the “real” bit.
Mooseing around amongst the Mayan ruins.
“Eh Gringo!”
“Try that again Pal!”
“Oh sheet Engleesh. Er....Beer?”
“What a splendid idea.”
Curious little chap with a wide brimmed hat. A most entertaining evening ensued in a local canteena. :)
Have been trying to get Mum out of the country for years. The Channel is just too wide it seams.
Ah. Well. I beg your pardon, then. I stand corrected ‘cuz I don’t unnerstan’ Henglish.
Must be time for me to go to bed. It’s been a long, busy day and the brain is tard.
Later.
We only have one real snake. It does the proper thing and keeps out of the way. The bite is only much use against Rats and mice, etc. But a trip to hospital is advised.
Snakes are something that you need to grow up with....Dogs are preferable.
Sleep well Face. :)
Very interesting. I’ve never been to Central America.
I hope you have a good night! I was having some private time with Jake.
I want to see the Mayan ruins, but not badly enough to go to Mexico or Guatemala, yet.
Two minor problems:
It is as hot as a hot place. (Doubt that will bother you too much).
The rest of the world is there at the same time.
Other than that well worth the effort.
Guatemala...best drivers in the world. Only the hands where needed to grip the seat.
