New Yorkers are getting frustrated by extremely noisy vehicles with modified exhaust pipes that terrorize residents, with many slamming the NYPD's laissez faire response.
The obnoxious sound of revving car engines and the distinct gunshot-like 'pops' of vehicles without mufflers gradually inundated the city's five boroughs this summer - and residents have had enough.
'Cars and motorcycles are completely out of control now that the cops are nowhere to be seen and there's no traffic in Brooklyn,' one person vented on social media in June. 'It's really dangerous and scary.'

We live in the middle of nowhere, where the loudest thing is a reasonably quiet farm tractor, a coyote, goose, gunshot, etc. All good country noises that are not really all that loud or annoying.
When we go to the city to shop the first thing I notice is loud car & motorcycle exhaust noise and car sound systems that can be heard a block away. Not to mention rude and overly competitive drivers.
There’s no way I could live in a city with a population over 2.
” I was reading just this morning that the NIH in the UK has started a new campaign to keep people from going to the hospital for non-COVID things.”
Very interesting. Thanks, livius. From deep in the weeds...

Is that you, Jeff Toobin?
The streets are empty.
The kids are racing.
Open up the City!!!!
Loud exhaust is “dangerous and scary”?
“and back on to produce a huge bang...until I blew the muffler off. I was able to turn around and pick it up. I never did that again.”
Me neither. The muffler was extremely HOT! ;)
I see guys in diesel pickups “rolling coal” on people and cars around my town. One day somebody is going to reach their breaking point when it happens.

It is, when you can’t hear emergency vehicles.
>>These days, cookie-cutter muffler-less rice rockets prevail.<<
Most offenders have English as a second language. :-/
Last month, a section of Florida’s US1 was illegally closed off, and the blockers (driving expensive cars) conducted a road-race of several miles.
“...the cops are nowhere to be seen...”
Go ask your mayor & governor why that is sweety pants & let us know their answers.
Once you began ignoring broken windows again the rest was sure to follow. Gods of the Copybook Headings are inbound.
Seems every truck around here has some kind of noise enhancement on it.
There used to be enforcement of the laws against loud vehicles, including motorcycles.
I had glass packs when I was a kid but soon took them off. Even that was just too loud.

We had sonic booms during late summer, early fall from military training flights. We thought folks were blasting or shooting off cannons. DH almost lost it until we discovered the source. He said he wanted to move even further into the boonies if this was going to continue.
Even our closest city of 50k doesn’t have the loud car problem. Thankfully.

We get that here too. The State has a site you can send videos of that to but i doubt they do much.
Got the guy with a huge, white, obnoxiously loud pickup (”Look at me! For the love of God look at me!!!!!!”).
I think the worst one is the young guy who drives around in his stupid micro car (Fiat?) with the windows rolled down and his 3,000 watt stereo system blasting. You can feel the sound inside your house when he’s still a block away. Hopefully the dope already has lost much of his hearing.

I’m so glad you informed us of the color of the truck.
