Yeah, the forgiveness angle reminds me of Christian doctrine that even a mass murderer can ask forgiveness from death row, if he accepts Christ. Not all Christian denominations agree that seeking forgiveness is enough, that faith alone is enough. Not going to argue about that here. But just me personally, I think it was a bit of a stretch to accept Darth back as a heroic Jedi.
The prophesy story line does play into it, but if that was Darth’s purpose, it didn’t seem to work, as in episodes 7, 8 and 9 the dark side is still very strong and active.
