No large or national charity, regardless of denomination or religion. They are all Democrats and all crooks.

The smallest, most serious, place she can find.

Some little thing to whom she will be a great blessing.

No commies wanted. Playground maypoles with long chains with handles attached to a rotating cap on top of the pole are fiendish fun. With you friends pushing you along you start to swing out and go horizontal. when your hands get to tire to hang on you can fly for 8 or 9 feet and maybe knock over a few friends. There was one on my grade school’s playground and I missed it when the nervous Karens of the day took it down.

Wounded Warrior Project.....especially the cottage.. Those who have to deal with PTSD need quiet places to recover.

I’d also look at the layout of her community as there might be churches who need a Parsonage for their Pastors.

Also Samaritans Purse might be an option as they do wonderful work helping people.

Hmmm... This brings to mind another post here on FR tonight about Stevie Nicks...

IAC, if this old lady (who is probably younger than me) thought enough of you to ask this important favor, you should be the beneficiary and tell her you'll remember her always...

Another reason why I'm thankful my wife and I have so many wonderful children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren (some of whom we spent the afternoon with today (Saturday)....

We've spent the last 20-years turning almost everything we have over to them while we are still here... For example; money, vehicles, boat, guns, ammo, books, and a strong sense of patriotism...
We tell them that when we go it will be like looking at the turkey carcass the day after Thanksgiving...We be picked clean... Screw the lawyers and government tax collectors...

What we have held on to will last another 20-years just fine... Or, at least, until we have done our part in the coming storm...

Depends on the amount of money that is left after all else is taken care of. A four yr scholarship to Hillsdale for one or more students would be a lasting remembrance of her. If it is a large amount of money, consider donating a library to a small town. I know of two such donations and was impressed at the facilities built in areas that greatly appreciated the access to all of the things libraries now provide. The buildings are actually fair size new houses built with single floor and natural landscaping, right in town. They fit in with their locations. Books, computers, childrens areas etc. Hard to trust donating to just about any popular charity because most already get federal grants or money from various sources by providing services that they are paid for.

My suggestions, split between an endowed chair in a local University department and that Department’s chairman’s discretionary fund (for tuition, scholarships, attendance at professional society meetings, lodging & meals to interview new faculty and graduate students, etc.)

Another suggestion that my wife and I have been donating to recently is local food banks as the need during the pandemic is huge.

Fisher House is supposed to have one of the best ratios of funds spent on vets vs funds spent on overhead. They are always looking for houses, as their main thing is finding a place for a wounded vet to stay while receiving treatment, or for the family to stay in to be near a vet who is hospitalized.

They might also be able to trade a house not near where they need one for a house closer to a hospital or rehab center.

For a number of years I had Mission Wolf as my beneficiary. Of course, that wasn’t popular in Colorado.

I'm not impressed with most charities.

I would put an ad in the local paper for a young person to assist with small chores after school one day a week. Come up with a list of questions for the phone interviews... write down answers and tell people you're get back to them within a day or two to set up an in-person interview. Choose 3 or 4 kids to 'interview' in person... .

Write down the answers to new questions... Then choose out the top two - and leave each of them $4,000 for college. Or if your friend lives long enough, to start their own families.

That takes care of $8,000... (Have an explanation for the two kids who 'won' because with one interview they probably won't remember who your friend is)

Here’s one that’s more fun...

When I lived in Chicago many years ago an old man would sit at the bar in a very nice restaurant and when young people came in for a special meal - or older people celebrating something ... he would pick up the tab for their meal.

The deal with the restaurant was that he was never to be identified... so lots of people going out for a special occasion or for dinner after prom night had a nice dinner had really cool surprise.

Bequeath it to Hillsdale College in Hillsdale Michigan. This might be a gift that lasts forever.

Don’t be surprised if her estate is much larger than you think. The way do die rich is to follow only two simple rules: Spend less than you earn with that savings wisely invested, and live to a ripe old age. It seems to me that she has done both. Living in a “nice” but not extravagant house, and driving an old car is a good clue to the first rule.
