The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Used Hal, with which I am unfamiliar. On a scale of 1-10 this is about a 5. No single breakthrough, just plodded.
Common letter, word eight, words at end of quote, then off to the races.
Seems I solved this puzzle faster than most.
Then again, nobody will hold me in high regard

Tinkered with the short words and it started showing up.
After the apostrophe is was smooth sailing.
Yesterday’s stumped me completely. Today’s was quite easy. Like stepping on a duck!
