John McCain's mother has died at the of age 108, it was announced Monday.
John's wife Cindy tweeted: 'It is with great sadness that I announce the death of my wonderful Mother In-law, Roberta McCain.
'I couldn’t have asked for a better role model or a better friend. She joins her husband Jack, her son John and daughter Sandy.'

Yes, for most folks I’ve known or seen, the 90s are pretty rough. Occasionally, there’s some exception. Knew a guy in his 90s who was still traveling. Used to go over the France, rent a car, etc. Incredible physical health. By 96 or so, the mind was starting to go... a la Joe Biden.

I remember her from the campaign with Obongo. She was a tough old bird then. She demanded respect.
She was at the funeral and didn’t even need any assistance. She clearly ate right and probably exercised regularly. I do not want to live that long mainly for financial reasons. Now she was extremely wealthy so that was not an issue. Me, I’m good till 80 and then the pension will be it probably. Not counting on social security and investments are good till then. I’m thinking about the costs of things will be prohibited in 30 years.

Obviously she wasn't an adulterous narcissist like her son, or an aldulteress druggie like her daughter-in-law.
I feel sorry for her having to bury a child. I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy. Saying that, she lived a very long life, which many people don't get to do. I hope she feels she made the most of it, and had some happiness along the way. She sure outlived everyone in my family. If I make it to 74 next year, I'll have lived as long as my oldest sibling, who lived the longest in my immediate family.
So did John.
About 3 weeks.
Once you hit the high nineties, the chances of living another year are actually VERY good. Until you hit 105-6.

Burned 80 candles this year, and have no health issues so far, knock on wood.
I can relate to “friends are gone”. I reached 80 this year, and my friends are all gone. And it is difficult to make new friends at 80 since the activities are limited. No more college, no more jobs, no more private golf club, all those places were great for making friends.
