It's an alternative history in which Franklin D. Roosevelt is defeated in the presidential election of 1940 by Charles Lindbergh.

I was so sure when Trump won the nomination the press would make comparisons--a nationally known figure, a political outsider, succesful in business and indepently wealthy.

They never did but it didn't matter. The attacks on Trump have been vicious without a literary reference.
