There must be a test to determine whether one has had it.
I will ask my doc when I see him again.
It would be useful; because if you’ve never had it, you probably can’t acquire shingles; but it would tell you to stay clear of sick young children - apparently chicken pox in older people can be very serious.
Glad I had the (non-fetal) shots, then.
Yes family members have had shingles several times. Do you know the name of the vac you took. I would want that one, too.
Yeah, I suffer from diabetic neuropathy, as well, but this has started around my knee and along my calf. It’s like having rock-hard lumps under the skin. The skin itself is hypersensitive to the touch - almost white hot - and every flex of the knee or the movement of the muscle is like an intense explosion of fireworks. I’ve had three lesions so far that have appeared overnight, abscessed, and ruptured. I’ve been keeping large bandages on the infected areas and a compression sock over all. It’s like a staph infection gone sideways.
For adults, the GSK company makes an ethical shingles vaccine, Shingrix.
Merck’s shingles vaccine, Zostavax, is derived from aborted fetal cells.
