Absentee Voting from Abroad now a pain in the butt ( in NY anyway )

Just YESTERDAY got information on requesting an absentee ballot and I see they've changed the system since 2016 . I am already registered but have to register again and request a ballot which now can't be done online for those of us living abroad so have to print out the form ( I don't have a printer so will have to ask someone to print out for me ) and mail it to Suffolk County , NY . Then they will mail ballot to me and then I have to mail it back to them ! This will take over 30 days and the election is in 38 ! What a joke ! Look below !

TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: absentee; newyork; voting
From the website :

" Using the FPCA ensures that your state will send your ballot to you at least 45 days before the election — a protection not guaranteed when using other forms. It's a good idea to send in a new FPCA every January and each time you move. " HAHAHA !!! 45 days before ? Just found out I had to use this FPCA yesterday !

You should have tried voting from a US Navy ship on deployment, where parts and pax take priority over mail. IRS didn’t receive my tax forms until July, and we routinely received Christmas cards well into April.

I was able to vote from abroad online as a S. Carolina resident. Easier than I thought, though I did have to sign and send the initial document.

” How to Vote Absentee as a Military Spouse or Family Member

As a military spouse or family member, you can vote absentee while living away from your voting residence.

Here’s how:

1. Register to vote and request your ballot in one easy step. “

Same applies to military members : must send in reg. form to request ballot .

Ballot still has to be delivered half-way around the world on a ship at sea. Something you have experience with?

My daughter is a NY resident, and requested to have her absentee ballot sent to my address. She said she filled out the online request on September 1. Ballots supposedly were to start sending on September 18, so this is 8 days later. Still have no ballot but hope it shows up in the next day or so. I’m planning to overnight it to her if I ever get it. Do you think I should tell her about that other form (FPCA) you mentioned? Or is that only applicable overseas? She will be in the continental US until December.

She is in the continental US so doesn’t require an FPCA .
