It’s the smart move for Romney. By making it appear that he will vote for the nominee, he makes it possible that he will be the 50th vote. If he is the 50th vote, he can pull a McCain thumbs down at the last second. If he’s the 51st vote, it doesn’t matter anyway. By signaling a yes vote, he makes it more possible that other votes will peel away. I have zero doubt that Romney does not want a new conservative judge in place when the election happens. That judge would help prevent a stolen election, and Romney’s sole purpose in being in the Senate is to play a part in getting rid of Trump, and if he can’t do that, to diminish him.
#1281 Mutt McRomney gets run out of Utah if he doesn’t support Trump’s SC nominee.
But, in the end, Trump will still be President.
Just like after McNoName’s thumb.
Which, if Satan has a sense of humor, is the ONLY thing on his body not touched by eternal fire.
By signaling a yes vote, he makes it more possible that other votes will peel away.

I do not see the logic in that. If anything, I would think the reverse.
Susan Collins's re-election in anti-Trump Maine is at serious risk because she has mostly supported Trump in Senate voting. Being able to vote against Trump's SC nominee might save her ass seat.
Voting FOR the nominee might save Romney's reelection -- but that's a LONG way off. In a just world (which will prevail after Trump's re-election), Mitt will be primaried into oblivion. In a truly just world he will spend his retirement at GITMO, starting November 4.
