Something I learned about the Boston Tea Party, as I was reading about the East India Company. All that tea came from the EIC, and it was product that was extracted from the province of Bengal in the midst of a famine in which 3 million innocent Bengalis lost their lives because it was a poor crop year for rice and the company took ALL OF IT. There was considerable fear in the Colonies that the Company would in the future be allowed to ravage the Colonies the way it had Bengal and Hindustan. So, it was not just an act of contempt against the Crown, it was a stand of solidarity for the suffering of the people of Bengal. A connection to India that I had not known we had, as a nation.
