The Big Ten released a statement Tuesday saying it is exhausting every resource to help get student-athletes get back to playing the sports they love, at the appropriate time, in the safest and healthiest way possible after President Donald Trump tweeted his support for a fall college football season.
Late last week as reports surfaced about a scenario of the Power 5 conference starting right after Thanksgiving, Trump made it clear that wasnt good enough.
No, I want Big Ten, and all other football, back - NOW, he said in a tweet.
On Tuesday, the league responded to another Trump tweet about having a conversation with Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren.
Had a very productive conversation with Kevin Warren, Commissioner of the Big Ten Conference, about immediately starting up Big Ten football, Trump tweeted. Would be good (great!) for everyone - Players, Fans, Country. On the one yard line!
**SNIP**
I had a very good conversation with the Commissioner of Big Ten football, Kevin Warren, Trump said. And I think it was very productive, about getting Big Ten playing again and immediately. And lets see what happens. Hes a great guy. Its a great conference. Tremendous teams. And were pushing very hard.
I think the biggest headwind we have is that you have Democrats that dont want to see it happen. But I think they want to play, and the fans want to see it, and the players have a lot at stake, including possibly playing in the NFL. You have a lot of great players in that conference.

I am an Ohio State fan, and would love to see the Big 10 play, but me thinks the President would have more pressing issues to deal with. Anyway it might be refreshing to see football de-emphasised at least on a few campuses. I do not think football is mentioned in THE’s mission statement.
Me thinks the president is amazing. He is able to deal with 2 pressing issues at the same time.
There are a lot of sports that could cold start. People would understand that no one would be in peak shape at the beginning and that they would play their way into shape over the season. The same would go for team chemistry and coordination. For example, soccer and basketball could cold start. They are basically the same game, in case you hadn't noticed, except the ball is played with the hands in one and the feet in the other; they are both open, fluid, improvisational, continuous motion games, with constant changes of possession, and with the goal of putting the ball in the net. Scoring is harder in soccer mainly because the field is much bigger and because goaltending is legal. Sure, everybody would be rusty at the beginning and team coordination would be lacking. But you could play your way through that.
Football, however, is a collision sport; it would by physically dangerous to put out-of-condition athletes on the field. And since it is a stop motion game with intricately designed, set piece plays, long practice is essential. If the Big Ten were to restart now, it would be playing a clown game. They would do better to take off the helmets and pads, and play a sandlot flag football demonstration season as a conditioning exercise.
Read Kevin Warrens past posts on Yahoo - the guy is a far left Hillary Supporter. Warren will not cooperate with President Trump.
Our POTUS can do more than one thing at a time. And getting us out of this lockdown is key to restarting the economy
Yep. He’s actually trying to do something good for the fans/alums of those schools not to mention local businesses.
There simply is no need to cancel the season. 3 of the other Power 5 conferences are playing their seasons.
Shhhhh. He’s trying to win an election here. Now THE fans are torqued off because of who? Shhhhh...
The school presidents voted against playing 11-3. Here is how the votes broke down and the party affiliation of the state’s governor...

More pressing issues to deal with....
With a run of the mill politician; sure. But Donald John Trump is up, and working and getting things done from 4:00 A.M. until Midnight. An occasional tweet is NOTHING to him.
