When I was in college, "divestment" was the hot cause célèbre - dump the stock of firms doing business in South Africa, said the leftists. My accounting professor said that was a counterproductive idea, because common stock ownership gives you a say in the company's business. Divestment is tantamount to running away.

Everyone has a breaking point, but we may not always be consistent at first blush...I dumped my NR subscription when they defended Bush the elder using arguments they made against Dukakis...but I kept my subscription to Liberty (a libertarian magazine) even though the editor was pro-choice. I refuse to listen to Rage Against the Machine but I listen to the Dead Kennedys. I dumped the NFL for most of the 2017 season and then played catch-up in the playoffs just in time to see my Eagles win the Super Bowl. I won't go see a movie with Sean Penn in it but I saw Terminator III.

I am sure that makes me a disgrace to Deplorables on some level, and my VRWC secret decoder ring is being shut off remotely as I write this. But if I wanted to be totally pure, I'd have to be totally divorced from people.

As for being of the world and, more pointedly, watch playoff hockey, I will paraphrase Jefferson

Hockey isn't perfect now yet they are far from Sean Penn, NR, RATM. I'm watching Vancover/Las Vegas (and I am a Flyers fan but it is Game 7, man!) and they are not kneeling etc...thus, I am still disposed to suffer, and frankly I was here before these dopes got here...I will not divest but invest in upright player mercy and eschew purchases that support the stupid, and make it known that I want them to shut up n play yer game.

Maybe I'll go to Galt's Gulch some day, but for now I choose to live in the world.
