Our state militia is a joke. Maybe they do some good helping out with forest fires, but that’s about it.
Yeah, I’d been threatening to join the Alabama State Defense Force, but they were deactivated in 2014, purportedly to reorganize and integrate their mission with the Alabama National Guard more efficiently, but there’s been the usual political tail-dragging on the subject. There’s a private organization of former members who are loosely aligned with DHS, the Red Cross, and first responders, but no officially sanctioned reactivation.
