At the Batman Legacy panel at DC Fandome today, Jim Lee introduced John Ridley who talked about writing a new Batman series, with Nick Derington, bets known for his work on Mister Miracle, Batman Universe and Doom Patrol. The comic book will, as John Ridley put it "a slightly greater than 47% chance that he will be a person of colour" and that he will be using the comic to "delve into the Fox family" and that "Lucius Fox has been at Batman's side the longest." So
Luke Fox as Batman. Taken a while to get here.
John Ridley is lined up to write a Batman story in Batman: The Joker War Zone #1 with Luke Fox, out at the end of the month. Could this be the launch of the new Batman?

Not cool. Some things are traditional. White kids need heroes too; even fantasy heroes.
There’s no reason DC couldn’t write and produce a new character similar to Superman that’s not white. Choose the color/race/culture. Doesn’t matter. This new Kryptonian could be from a different family. He could have ended up on another planet but visits earth and our own Superman. Could be an whole new franchise to explore.
There are better ways to do things than cancel white males everywhere you look. Frankly I’m sick of Pedowood doing this.

I like the idea of a black Batman. A big strong guy with no super powers and is the Worlds Greatest Detective. Plus, he has got lots of super cool high and low tech toys at his disposal to go get the bad guys. My hope is that he does not parrot the Democrat Party Line. If he does then the effort will be garbage. If he stays away from politics and deals with a complex series of Halloween style crazy criminals he will be incredible. Best of luck Black Batman.

DC long ago made it clear that there is an endless supply of versions of all its characters.
First, when they decided to have a young Clark Kent being an adolescent superhero in Smallville (Superboy).
Then they added Supergirl, whose parents survided the Krypton explosion ... and Krypto the Superdog ... Streaky the Super Cat ... Comet the Super horse ... The Kandorian league of Substitute Supermen ... Superman robots ... Earth 2 Superman, Earth S Superman ... Earth SQR(PI) Superman.
In the '70s they came up with a black Green Lantern (it was established that the universe is filled with Green Lanterns deputized bu those littles blue guys from Oa)., female Speedy (Green Lantern's sidekick) ... etc etc
A black Batman could simply be yet another adopted ward who was a successor to Bruce Wayne. That doesn't particularly bother me. I am wondering when they will come up with a male Wonder Woman?

A Black Batman? How boring. How about a Black/Latino/Asian/Gender Fluid/Homeless BatPerson?

Idris Elba was magnificent as The Gunslinger in The Dark Tower.
Book fans were put off but I really liked him in it.
/Idris Elba should be Batman

Reminds me of the comic strip Li’L Abner when Al Capp, in the 1970s, introduced a black character just as lazy as Abner. It didn’t go anywhere.

The Batman is Bruce Wayne, unless this Batman is on another Earth in the multiverse.
On the other hand, I always liked John Stewart as he did not have the personal or psychological problems that the other Terran Green Lanterns had.
However my favorite members of The Green Lantern Corps are Chip and Mogo.
