I think President Bill Clinton once asked Singapore not to do the caning on some American... Singapore did not listen to him...

Don't deal drugs in Singapore...

I don't think women prisoners ever get "caning"...I never heard of such an instance...

A BRITISH ex-public schoolboy has been stripped and flogged 24 times in a Singapore jail for drugs offences.

Has it worked?

I first traveled to Singapore in 1976. Before landing we got a card that explained the drug policy (death I believe at that time) as well as some other things like acceptable hair length for men (I was sure to get a haircut before departing the US) and chewing gum.

Don't deal drugs in Singapore.

They'll whip your azz.

In some countries they'd have long ago killed him. He ought to be grateful for that, at least.

What do they teach the children in the British public schools that cause them to lead a life of crime?

YES, women can be caned in Singapore & in several other “formerly British” nations. - The MAXIMUM is 4 strokes on the palm of the hand with a 30”-long 1/4” rattan cane.

Men under 55YO may received a MAXIMUM of 10 strokes with a 40”-long 1/2” rattan cane on the bare buttocks.
(The usual number of strokes is 2, 4 or 6 strokes.- Fwiw, I was told by a former allied student & LTC of the Singapore Military Police, when I was on the staff of ASTD, that sentences of 10 strokes are “reserved for” murderers, rapists, armed robbers, kidnappers & child molesters. - Premeditated murder & kidnapping for ransom may be punished with BOTH caning & hanging <30 days later.)

Men 55YO & older are NEVER caned. - Instead, they receive 3-5 additional years in prison.

The BEST ADVICE: Do NOT commit serious crimes in Singapore.

Yours, TMN78247

This is the future of the USA if democrats and muslims take control of government.

Since Singapore has the death penalty for drug dealing, he got off lightly.

I have been to many foreign countries. One thing I always remembered is that I am a guest. It’s their country and their rules. Those that forget are usually the ones that get into serious trouble.

Most of us in the west have grown to the belief that the prison time is the punishment, and physical brutality is unnecessary and just brutality, not justice. Yes, Singapore has its own laws and its right to them. While we can defend that right, we don’t have to defend the law. We can and should say what we think of it. I think the canning is wrong and unnecessary.

I would prefer to see Singapore deport, for life, foreigners caught for breaking its drug laws.

Back in the ‘80s I worked in Kuwait and talked to some Brits who did a stint in Saudi Arabia. They caught one foreigner making wine for himself and sentenced him to 100 lashes.

The hooker was he got 25 a week, so just when he was healing, the cuts were opened up again.
