Actually there are certain trees that require fire/heat to allow for their seeds to begin initial growth. I want to say either the redwood or the sequoia are among them..but it’s been a few years (few...ok decades) since I was reading that stuff.
And your correct with your statement as well. I’m sure some will be lost but many will sustain and the burnoff is actually needed to clear away some of the undergrowth.
Grass and trees are in a primordial war with each other. The object of the tree is to grow and produce shade to kill grass. The object of the grass (the part we see above ground) is to catch dry and catch fire and burn away the trees and other obstruction that it may have that precious sunlight all to itself.
