The Ref may have been a more regional midwest franchise. Your right it closed in the 80s. Have to start looking for a Lounge. Chance over next 2 days to visit an in-n-out here...see how it goes.

Burger Chef was based out of Indianapolis. Had one in our town in IL on Main St. right across from a university in the '60s/'70s. The building now houses a very good bar & grill - the owner still has his Ron Paul ReLOVEtion banner on display outside on the fence.

The best around here back then was Sandy's, an excellent fastfood that Hardees absorbed around 1980.

Carl’s and Hardee’s are the same, I think. They merged at some point, but kept the names in their regions. Same menu.
