Democrats use this line quite often.
Every time some Executive Order is promulgated by the evil Orange-man, this canard is espoused in defiance.
Looking past the “republic v. democracy” argument, we should instead look upon the “why is it dangerous” question.
A democracy, in theory, provides governance by consensus.
A majority of all impacted agree to certain rules, regulations and laws.
So, in a sense, they are correct.
EO’s by the President are not based in a notion of Democracy; they are law by fiat.
How than can Gretchen Whitmer create fiat rules, regulations and laws while maintaining a loyalty to “the democratic process”
So by an orange-colored extension, Gretchen Whitmer’s Emergency Orders are a threat to our democracy.
What say you Michigan legislators?
Trump promulgates an Executive Order and the chant begins, “such a fiat order is a danger to our democracy”.
Yet, Whitmer’s Executive Order elicits a chant that sounds, suspiciously, like crickets.
