That relates to the previously mentioned 'one drop rule'.

The distinction is not whether somebody came directly from Africa, but whether they were black. And blacks came from Africa originally.

Creole:

A person of mixed European and black descent, especially in the Caribbean.

Once somebody was considered black, I assume they qualified as slave material. I also am assuming that half white, half black, were likely products of a master/slave union and sold immediately into slavery or considered slaves at birth.

By this definition, my boy Bob Marley was a creole. He'da been a slave back in the day.
