Austin, TX An Austin bike shop owned in part by Lance Armstrong has announced it will no longer fulfil its lucrative contract keeping the Austin Police Departments bicycle patrol on two wheels after after three employees complained that officers used their bikes to control violent protesters.
Mellow Johnnys Bike Shop, located in downtown Austin, is the brainchild of racing legend Armstrong, according to the shops website.
KXAN reported that the bike shop, which took a Paycheck Protection Program loan of between $150,000 and $350,000 in April, is walking away from a $314,000 contract with the city.
The most recent contract to supply the Austin police was a three-year agreement with two renewal options.
The bike shop, in business since 2008, has held the contract to provide all the Trek mountain bikes and accessories to the Austin bike cops for eight years, according to a column in the Austin American-Statesman.
On Tuesday, the manager called the Austin police and told them they had been cut off.

Somebody will be more than happy to sell expensive bikes to cops.
Somebody will be more than happy to sell expensive bikes to cops. I’ll bet the conservative bike shops are already preparing bid submissions.
Must be nice to have enough business to just throw BIG contracts like this away!!
Lance Boil Armstrong. What a fake.
Half their customers are conservative and when they get wind of this “Hasta La Vista...Kray, Kray...”
Cops are getting treated like the GIs were coming back from Vietnam. By the parents of todays little pukes, no doubt.
As one of he eighteen bazillion guys who had a bikeshop in the 70’s and 80’s (a long sad story), I would have killed for a contract like that.
I hope there is a double or triple clause for walking away.
but what about the Austin shop?
So the new Tour De Cheaters goes thru Austin
He embarrassed our country. I was willing to consider that he got railroaded by enemies, and that he was no worse than anyone else, but the evidence as I recall was darn near irrefutable that he was a particular abuser.
That a-hole.
Shocked they are in business still. Bike shops around here are closing up because they can’t even get inventory.
Any bike shop that picks up that contract will do very well.
would really be a shame if a certain liberal bike shop should need the police in an emergency, wouldnt it?
When I was a trainee, I was sent to another department to do some scut work, clearly beneath my meager position.
My master advised me to do the work, do a very nice job, stay busy, do not complain, but do it s-l-o-w-l-y.
They never ask again.
Of course, the store owner may be held hostage by Communist filth bags who aren't employees nor even customers.
I wouldn't want to be in that situation although I also wouldn't want to be that store owner calling the same police department to investigate any crime involving the store.
AUSTIN. AUSTIN is at the center of all dog crap that comes out of Texas. I’m only about an hour from that hell hole but it doesn’t exist as far as I’m concerned. I don’t think of it as being in Texas and none of the folks where I live do either. I do not plan to set foot in the city limits for the rest of my life.
but what about the Austin shop?
***********
Sure, I like to see the Austin shop go broke, would make my day. But, my point was the bike market is red hot right now so Im doubtful that the Austin shop will be going broke anytime soon.
every crook in the city knows the perfect place to rob now. I’ll bet the cops will be in a real hurry to get there.
I really hope that many someones rob the SOB!
