The Mensa spokeswoman says there is an immense correlation between high IQ and career success, good health, and longevity, yet she also believes a high IQ can result in social isolation.

One of Mensa’s goals is to unite “gifted” children because their general age group may find them a tad eccentric. I know a lot of chess players who are amazing problem-solvers but are struggling with “real” life....excerpted.

I know the guy who invented the coating to make the stealth invisible to radar. His IQ was rated at 180 something.

He said that when he was in school the principal called hin n and said:

“I’ve got good news and bad news. The good news is that your IQ is 180. The bad news is that you’re going to have to go through life dealing with a lot of stupid shits”.

This guy has tons of patents - turned his laundry room into a lab in recent years. Getting frail now. He accumulated collections that will have to be sold at Sotheby’s.

He’s had a good life.

The IQ means nothing without having accomplished anything. Einstein. By the time he was 12, he passed geometry and was doing college physics and mastered calculus by the time he was 15 years.

There is also so much more to being intelligent than having a high IQ. Having a great memory probably is more important than the actual IQ. If you have a great memory, you can speed along your ability learn more than somebody who is more intelligent, but does not have a great memory.

IQ is talent, which is not the same as genius, because genius is talent plus self reliance, acute consciousness, character and adventurism.

IQ only works in a controled and cattered accademic like environment.

Geeks have IQ but are not geniuses like the explorer types as David Livingston, Lewis&Clerk, George Washington, Jefferson, Ben Franklin, Richard F Burton, Rigby etc. Who are absolute giants that we cannot find anymore.

“high IQ can result in social isolation”
“their general age group may find them a tad eccentric”

Pretty much sums it up.

A good IQ test result does open up a lot of opportunities. Results are up to the individual.

When my daughter was leaving grade school, I was called to a meeting with the principal and counselor. They were so excited that she was one of only 2 students in the whole school district that tested in the 146 - 160 range and the other student was across town in a class of much wealthier kids. It opened up special classes, tutoring and programs that were a blessing.

Motivation is highly important. My IQ is high, but with anxiety, depression and ADD, it doesn’t count for much.

My sister had a friend who was MENSA. She ended up committing suicide in 1999.

It was sad.

I recall another girl who committed suicide in the 80’s. She probably would have been Valedictorian. So smart she could not fit in.

Sad.

I kinda like being dumb....

Danger...Opinions Follow...

The IQ quest comes from two directions. First, it is a drive to identify persons with some sort of higher mental capability and secondly why some have this capability and others do not. As far as an answer for these two basics, I got nothing. However, for me they are the root base of why knowledge of IQ facets drives forward in exploration.

Having a high IQ does not equal in itself a guarantee of enhanced success. MENSA itself has members from high flying successes in one area or another to persons working as a laborer. Personality wise, some are gregarious and others are withdrawn recluses.

I’ll share some experiences... I’ll start off like the AA does and say, my name is Hoot and I am smart. Book learning wise, I’ve got two STEM degrees in different fields, microbiology and chemical engineering. I was offered a job out of college by a semiconductor company that wanted to pay me $$$ and send me back to college for an electrical engineering degree. I was completely worn out with college though so went into industry in a quirky R&D niche. As far as IQ, I have no idea but it’s better than average. The only testing I’ve done is Mensa’s format and one battery of tests completely twists my brain so much I walk away from it.

Read that last sentence, it’s important and applies to everyone. If anything, I believe that persons with higher IQs are more prone to having some other mentally related aspect that is much lower than the rest and possibly debilitating.

I had never before heard the term very stable genius until Donald Trump applied it to himself. Light bulbs went off, flashed even! LOL! That was something missing in how I could describe things and this lit things up. History is filled with great thinkers of higher intellect, higher IQ but what sets some above the others is a broader range of stability. I accept DJT’ self description as a VSG. Another that I nominate is Alfred Einstein, whom I wonder if was really a space alien. Hehehe...

What Does Having an IQ Higher Than Einstein Mean?

I’d say it’s all relative, but it’s just a theory.

IQ does not measure how smart you are.... It measures your ability to learn... If you have a high IQ and don’t apply yourself, you will still be dumb as a bag of rocks

It’s a problem today with our environment causing so much neurological damage. We have a lot of children who have very high IQs but are on the autism spectrum and might not be able to tie their shoes or eat in a restaurant.
